International Research Institute For Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy

The International Research Institute for Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy (IRISSS) was established to provide continued and new opportunities in basic and applied research, an educational platform comprised of basic and advanced short courses and practical instruction and problem solving in the field of Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy.

Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy is a new technology that:

• Integrates high resolution biostratigraphic and paleobathymetric data sets with the characteristics of well log signatures and seismic reflection profiles
  
  
• Permits the biostratigrapher, geologist and geophysicist to work together as an exploration of development team, with a synergistic approach, to subdivide the stratigraphic section into third and fourth-order depositional sequences (Vail sequences).
  
  
• Significantly reduces risk in Exploration and Development projects especially in areas where AVO anomalies do not exist.
  
  
• Identifies systems tracts that are associated with potential hydrocarbon reservoirs, seal and source rocks
  
  
• Predicts reservoir geometry both vertically and laterally
  
  
• Determins correct play concepts for various types of reservoir sands (shelf or slope, parallel or perpendicular to strike).

IRISSS the International Research Institute for Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy provides personalized instruction in the principles and applications of Seismic Sequence Stratigraphic Analysis presented by Drs. Peter R. Vail, Robert M. Mitchum, John B. Sangree, Walter W. Wornardt, Jory Pacht, Peter Trabant and Jim Zhang. Sessions include two to ten days of instruction and supervised problem solving using Seismic Sequence Stratigraphic Analysis principles applied to the participants' own project
